A New Start
I just received a phone call from my sister informing me that my parents have just arrived in LAX. They left everything behind (Saigon, Vietnam) to start a new life in the U.S. Well, that's all I am going to say for now.

My buddy Tim and his girlfriend Carrie came by the studio last week. Tim wanted some photos of Carrie and I needed a model. Again, it was perfect. Anyway, what Tim had in mind was more something along the line of glamour photography. Since I have never done glamour photography so it was a great opportunity to learn a thing or two. I also did some fashion shots of Carrie and Tim just to have something for the book. The shoot went pretty well.

Been a while since I updated my blog. I did a photoshoot yesterday. I ran an ad last week on Craigslist looking for models. It was a TFCD (time for CD) ad. Basically, models want to update their portfolios but don't have the money to hire a photographer and photographers that need models but don't have the money to hire models so trading services couldn't be more perfect. Anyway, Katie responded to my ad. She has recently cut her hair and wanted to update her book. Her hairdo reminded me of the movie Amelie--What a great freaking movie and awesome cinematography.
The shoot lasted about 2 1/2 hrs. I thought it went well. I like a lot of shots. Hopefully Katie can used some of these photos for her book.

My cousin Liz came by the studio yesterday. As mentioned in previous post, I wanted to get into fashion photography. It's no excuse for me not to--I have access to a huge studio. (My boss, Jon let me use it whenever I want). Anyway, I had two for the shoot--not long enough as I had hoped. Even so, I learned a lot. Yep, I suck at fashion photography. Making beautiful images is very difficult! Not to worry: I will practice and practice.

JFPI Photo Shoot
We had a photo shoot out in a field today. It was a lot of fun being outdoor and all but it was also a lot work packing the cameras, lights, props, wardrobes, chairs, table etc. Well, that's part of the game and I am having a little taste of it. The weather was perfect except for annoying bugs buzzing around us. I got bitten by a blood-sucking fly. That was some nasty shit.
The field you are looking at used to be a farm. Soon, condos and townhouses will replace the corn fields and the fruit trees. So many farms are disappearing fast in Maryland. I want to do some personal photo shoots here before developers moving in.

My friend Becky's daughter Amy wants to get into modeling, mostly part time. I, on the other hand, desperately need to update my portfolio. All I have right now is travel photos. I need to expand my gallery. What I need is a portrait gallery. So, what to do when you don't have money to pay for models? You ask your family, friends, their kids and even strangers to pose for you. It's tougher with strangers. I am working on that.
Anyway, my friend Becky and Amy came by the studio, where I employ as a digital retoucher, on Saturday. I had two hours to get my act together and produce something usable. Amy was like a pro. She was so comfortable, first time modeling, in front of the camera which really made my job so much easier. (There are so many agencies especially Elite and Ford would love to represent Amy).
I thought the shoot went pretty well. I can definitely think Now I am going to do some homework for next week's shoot--my cousins are modeling for me.
